 Odisha's civil services examination is conducted by the Odisha public service commission. This examination is conducted in two stages i.e preliminary examination and main examination. Again the main examination is conducted in two parts i.e written exam and viva (personality test). The preliminary examination is qualifying in nature. you need to qualify for this exam to write the main exam. in that sense, the prelim exam is very important and crucial.

preliminary examination

The preliminary examination consists of two papers i.e paper 1(general studies) and paper 2(civil service aptitude test). Each paper is consisting of 200 marks. Questions are of objective types. Paper 1 consists of 100 questions and each question carries 2 marks. There is a deduction of 25%  of the mark i.e 0.5 marks for each wrong answer. Paper 2 is consisting of 80 questions and each question carries 2.5 marks. There is a deduction of 25% of the mark i.e 0.625 marks for each wrong answer. Paper 2 is qualifying in nature. You need to qualify this paper so that your paper 1 will be evaluated. Your selection to write the main exam will be based on the marks you have secured on the paper1.

This time in Odisha civil services examination 2020, there are 392 vacancies. Approximately the number of students qualified in the preliminary stage is equal to 12 times the number of vacancies. So this time 392*12=4704 students will qualify for the main examination.

unserved category

For the unreserved category, the number of vacancies is 197.
Among 197 seats 64 seats are reserved for girls i.e197-64=133 for the unreserved boys. So for the unreserved category boys, they should come under the top (133*12)=1596 students.
For the unreserved category girls, they should come under the top  (197*12)=2364 students.

sebc category

For the SEBC category 43 seats are reserved and among them, 14 seats are reserved for SEBC girls.
So for SEBC boys, there are (43-14)=29 seats.
Now the total seats for the SEBC boys are equal to (133+29)=162 seats.
So they need to come under the top  (162*12)=1944 students.
The total seats for the SEBC girls are equal to(197+43)=240 seats.
So they need to come under the top (240*12)=2880 students.

sc category

For the SC category, there are 63 seats are reserved, and among them, 21 seats are reserved for SC girls.
The total number of seats for SC boys is equal to (133+63-21)=175 seats.
They should come under the top  either 1596 unreserved students or top(42*12)= 504 SC students.
The SC girls should come under either the top 2364 students or top (63*12)=756 SC students.

st category

Number of seats=89
for girls=29
The ST boys should come under either the top 1596 students or under the top (60*12)=720 ST  students.
The ST girls should come under either the top 2364 students or the top (89*12)=1068 ST students.

PWD category

no of seats=18
They should come under either the top 1596 students (boy),2364 students(girl), or top (18*12)=216 PWD students.

EX servicemen

Number of seats=3
They should come under the top (3*12)=36 Ex-SM category students.

sports person

Number of seats=3
They should come under the top (3*12)=36 sportsperson category students.
