Points you need to keep in mind while preparing for civil services examination( opsc OAS)

 

The civil services examination is the most prestigious examination in our country. This examination is conducted both at the union and state level. According to article 315 of the Indian constitution, there shall be a Public service commission for the union and a public service commission for each state. So these are the constitutional bodies. Union civil services examination is conducted by the UPSC i.e union public service commission. State public services examination is conducted by the state public service commission i.e Odisha civil services examination is conducted by the Odisha public service commission(OPSC).

In this article, I will tell you about the Odisha civil services examination. This examination is conducted for the recruitment for the various services i.e 1.odisha administrative service

2.odisha police service

3.odisha financial service

4.odisha revenue service

5.odisha co-operative service

6.odisha account and taxation service.

Among the above, the first three are the group A services and the last three are group B services.

But the Odisha administrative service (OAS) is the most popular one. So Odisha civil services examination is popularly known as the OAS examination.

The young officers recruited under this service are undergone training at Gopabandhu academy for administration, Bhubaneswar. They take the job at grass root administration level. The initial posts under this service are 1. Tahasildar cum executive magistrate at Tahasil level. (Odisha has 317 Tahasils)

2.Block development officer i.e BDO (Odisha has 314 blocks).

3.Deputy collector at the district collectorate (Odisha has 30 district collectorate).

 The officers are initially placed in group A (JB) i.e junior band.

Group A( JB) -GroupA( SB)-Group A( SAG)-Group A( S)-Group A (SS)

OAS officers at Group A (SS) are the most senior officers working as secretaries or special secretaries to the govt. of Odisha.

 

In other articles, we will discuss other services. Now we will focus on the strategy for the Odisha civil services preliminary examination. This stage is the most important stage of the examination. You need to qualify for this exam in order to write the main examination. Since it is an MCQ type of examination, the spread of asking the question is very vast. Here the syllabus is not clearly defined so they can ask any question. We will get a glimmer picture of the examination by analyzing the previous years' questions.

Some basic points

1.Your basic should be very strong.

2. I will recommend you to go through all the basic resources to have a strong foundation.

3. The two fundamental ingredients required for this examination are 1. burning desire to become an officer. 2. madness for study.

4. After analyzing the previous years' question and syllabus, you need to define your grey area of study from which most of the questions are asked. You keep on sticking your focus on that area.

5. After having a 2-3 times thorough study of the basic contents, you need to practice a lot of MCQs to have a strong grip on the concepts.

6.Devide the entire contents into small parts and proceed accordingly. 

7.Revise on regular basis.

8.Make some sticky notes of the most probable topics from your point of view.

9. Consolidate all the sticky notes you have kept earlier and revise them. Consolidation and revision are the keys to the preparation.

10.Many  a time you will feel low and depressed so in that time you need to be self-motivated. Motivation is the key to make yourself contained in the examination system.

11. Regularly go through the motivational websites, youtube channels , books or talk to the inspiring persons of your life to keep yourself motivated.

12. Use technology as far as possible to save time and to make your preparation smarter.

13. Ignore the naysayers i.e the negative people.

14. Don't panic about the initial failures because failure makes your base strong day by day.

15. Failure is the real teacher because success does not teach much.
